PRIVATE PILOT GROUND SCHOOL
OVERVIEW
MorningStar University will offer a Private Pilot Ground School course from February 20 to March 9, 2012 at Heritage International Ministries. The Private Pilot Ground School is the first step in obtaining a
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot Certificate. The purpose of this course is to (1) prepare students for the FAA Private Pilot written examination and, (2) to prepare students academically for successful completion of Private Pilot flight training. A Private Pilot Certificate authorizes a pilot to fly an airplane for personal use and may also be the first step to more advanced pilot certificates and ratings needed for a career as a professional pilot, such as in the mission field.
SCHEDULE
Class will convene Monday through Friday each week starting on Monday, February 20, 2012 and ending Friday, March 9, 2012. The class will take place each evening from 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the Fuel Station on Main Street at MorningStar.
TUITION
Students will be required to pay a $250.00 registration fee and register by calling 1.877.HIM EVENTS (877.446.3836) or online at www.MoringStarMinistries.org. This fee includes the materials for the course.
INSTRUCTOR
The course instructor will be Tom Archer, who is a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) in single and multi-engine airplanes, helicopters, and instrument in both airplanes and helicopters. Tom is a retired U.S. Marine Corps aviator and test pilot, retired FAA test pilot, and current test pilot for an aircraft manufacturer. He has test flown a variety of aircraft including the following: general aviation airplanes, float planes, jet fighters, jet transports, and helicopters. Most recently, he participated in the flight testing of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Tom has over 2,000 hours as a flight instructor, including instructing private pilot students and military students at the primary, tactical, and test pilot school levels. Tom and his wife, Jackie, are members of MorningStar Fellowship of Ministries and reside in Keller, Texas.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Students must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approval to take this course. Students who are U.S. citizens must show a passport, birth certificate, or U.S. Naturalization documentation at the first class session. Students who are not U.S. citizens may obtain TSA approval by following the process available at the following websites: http://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov/afsp2 and/or http://www.aopa.org/tsa_rule/ . The TSA approval process may take approximately one month to complete, so please start the process immediately.
ADDITIONAL FEE
The Private Pilot written examination can only be taken at an FAA approved testing center. Several such centers are located in the Charlotte area. The testing fee is approximately $150.
